Together we can make life beautiful

DIY Record Table From An Old Speaker

We've had a pair of speakers that were hand-me-downs sitting by our tv, but not being used. They've been through quite some wear and needed an update. So, I busted out the insides, and gave new life to this old speaker!

before and after diy speaker to record table

I started by removing the front and back from these speakers, just a matter of taking out a few screws from the backside.

Then I had to hammer out some of the front casing.

A little matte black spray paint to coat the legs

And then a gold base coat after sanding the wood!

Then I took painters tape and cut thin strips of tape to apply in random patterns.

Then I just sprayed it matte black and screwed on the legs!

Supplies:

First, remove the insides of the speaker and hammer out any leftover obtrusive casing. Then sand down the outside of your surface. After wiping your surface clean, spray with 1-2 coats of gold spray paint, (my favorite is rust-oleum metallic). After drying, cut and apply strips of painters tape in the pattern of your liking. Spray with 1-2 coats of black matte spray paint (I used rust-oleum flat protective enamel). Spray the hairpin legs with black matte spray paint. After everything is dry, remove painters tape and attach legs to the base of the speaker with pan-head screws.

I hope you enjoyed this DIY! Let me know your thoughts and any questions you may have in the comments below!

The point is, maybe you will actually wear them if they weren't in a pile of a mess!

DIY Free People Fringe Cropped Jeans

Instead of paying $300 for the latest trendy jeans, I hit my local thrift store and made my own!

All you need is :

  • a pair of denim jeans

  • scissors

  • a seam ripper

Cut Off

Cut off your hem.

Ripped Seam

Rip your side seam to the place you want your fringe to start and fray away.

This is the most time-consuming part, I suggest putting on a movie and working away at the fringe. I used a makeshift seam ripper to remove the WHITE strands of thread from the denim. You will find that they separate pretty easily, but it is a strand by strand process.

I am totally satisfied with how they came out! It was definitely worth the time and effort and way cheaper than buying them at Free People.

I have to say, I am absolutely thrilled with how this project turned out. Not only does it look great, but it was super affordable and easy! I'm sure you've seen these chrome barstools before along with the leather cushion tops, they really look outdated. My incredible husband found these for me at Goodwill for just $5 each! He knew that I could give them a new look!

All you need to duplicate this look is:

  • Your own set of old barstools

  • 1 can of matte black spray paint

  • 1 small can of minwax stain (I had some left from this project)

  • 2 Round Pine Slabs 15"x15"x1" (I found mine at Lowe's for $7 each)

First unscrew the top off your base

Valentines Day Apple Pie With A Heart Shaped Center
Heart Shaped Center Valentines Day Apple Pie

Not only is It National Pie Day, but Valentines is sneaking up on us quicker than we realize!

So, I thought it appropriate to bake a little love into this pie to get us in the mood.

I'd like to tell you I made my pie crust from scratch and I peeled each individual apple slice with care, but I took the easy way out for time's sake!

However, it's still yummy and hits the spot on this chilly day.

Apple Pie Filling

All I did to this super simple pie is freehand cut a heart in the top pie crust, but if you have a heart shaped cookie cutter that will work too!

Valentines Day Apple Pie With A Heart Shaped Center

Just make sure you vent the sides of your pie or it might turn out a little bubbly like mine.

Creating Healthy Habits
Creating Healthy Habits
Any act often repeated soon forms a habit; and habit allowed, steady gains in strength, At first it may be but as a spider’s web, easily broken through, but if not resisted it soon binds us with chains of steel.
— Tyron Edwards

Statics show that nearly 30% of us have already failed at our New Years Resolutions.

However, even if you've failed to meet your goal these past two weeks, you still have 50 more weeks to succeed!

You have the choice today to get up and try again and create either healthy or destructive habits.

I believe that the most dangerous habits to form are habits of apathy, of inconsistency, and of living life defeated.

We are what we repeatedly do
— Aristotle

We have all likely heard that it takes 21 days to form a habit, but other research suggests that this cannot apply to everyone or every habit. Some habits may take up to a year to form!

Life would be a lot easier if we were able to consistently do something for 21 days, and automatically continue doing it for a lifetime.

However, we see people all the time who practice consistently healthy lifestyles crumble when outside circumstances influence their stability.

We see people who have been clean for years, turn back to drugs or alcohol, some even for the first time in their lives.

So how do we overcome and stick with our goals & create a healthy lifestyle that doesn't crumble in the face of opposition or change?

My advice to you is this: do not seek perfection, for you will fail. Seek consistency, anticipate failure, and have the courage to pick yourself back up and try again.

I have learned from many years of overachieving and not setting realistic expectations for myself, that the perfection I aim for only causes me to become discouraged and anxious.

God himself does not expect perfection from me, and therefore I myself will not put such ridiculous expectations on myself.

I resolve to live each day, and live it to the best of my ability, and allow myself grace for my mistakes.

Form the daily habit of always trying your best, anticipating failure, and extending grace to yourself and others. It is then that other habits will become more successful.

What are your secrets to maintaining or creating healthy habits in your life?

If a friendship lasts for more than 7 years, will it really last a lifetime?

I've heard that psychologists say if a friendship can last more than 7 years, it will last for life. While I have done no research to prove or disprove that statement and have no idea how valid the statement itself is, I can say that I have personally seen it to be true and false. Marriage alone, which I personally consider to be the ultimate friendship, proves itself to be capable of failure no matter how long it lasts. So what exactly causes friendship to last forever or fail? I think that the answer and true secret to maintaining a lifelong friendship is found in the love and maturity within the people of that friendship and the identity placed outside of it.

I believe I can honestly say to myself that I have never intentionally burned a bridge with anyone in my life. All the friendships or relationships that have been cut off, were not of my choosing. I always try to leave the door open to communication and friendship regardless of the situation.
Though I hate to see friendships fail, it is not always possible to be the friend that someone else wants or needs you to be. Our lives often cross paths for a season but are not able to maintain the level of time and commitment necessary to continue as they once began. If friendships are unable to evolve as lives change and develop, then for one reason or another they may completely fall apart.

a friend loves at all times

However, I want to be a friend as it states in Proverbs 17:17. I want to love at all times. Even, when I am treated unfairly, and friends disappoint and prove themselves to be unreliable or untrustworthy, I want to still place myself in a position to love them. I think many times friendships are ended because people are tired of being hurt or their expectations continue to not be met. Yet, as a friend, this will always be the case, if not now, then later. It's impossible to be friends or even be a husband or wife, without hurting the other person, disagreeing, or letting them down.

People often think that perfect friendships or relationships are the perfect balance of give and take, a mutually symbiotic relationship where both people receive and reciprocate love equally. However, I would disagree and dare to say that the strongest friendships are ones that are completely out of balance in giving and receiving love, being able to love when it's not always reciprocated.

In fact, true love is the ability to be hurt, over and over again, and forgive over and over again, regardless of what you receive in return. When your identity is placed in the hands of a friend or a loved one, that is when, problems occur. However, I believe that it is God's ultimate wish that we learn to place our identity in him and are able to give others the completely unconditional love that he gives us without expecting anything in return.

Don't give up on people just because they hurt you or failed to meet your expectations.

I have amazing friends, some that have lasted more than seven years, and I consider my husband to be my best friend, but as amazing as they are, they have all at some point or in some way failed to be what I "needed" them to be. That is why I have learned to adjust my needs to be met by Christ. He never fails to be the friend I can always count on.

I promise that if you can learn to do the same, your friendships will be much more fulfilling and you will feel much less hurt.

Wynwood Walls Colorful Art Walk

Since Justin and I moved in October, I cannot tell you how many times I have been asked the question:

"So, how are you liking Miami?"

So, let me just fill you all in at once!

Miami is many things.

It's big.

It's colorful.

And it's full of insane drivers... Atlanta traffic has nothing on this craziness.

Oh, and it's HOT (basically a perpetual summer)

Which also means, you can go to the beach on any given day of the year!

It's also filled with some wonderful people.

We have been welcomed in with loving arms and are so grateful for the friends we have made thus far!

We love Miami because it is diverse and full of places that we can explore!

As creatives, we especially appreciate all of the murals and works of art this city has on display.

Not only is it full of cool places to adventure, but there are countless numbers of people that we have the opportunity to meet and introduce to the life that Jesus has given us.

We are very excited about 2016 and all the new adventures, wonderful people, and life changing encounters that will come our way!

If we learned anything from 2015, we learned all the more that God is faithful.

We are confident in that faithfulness as we walk into this new year, and we will grow where he has planted us.

The Greatest Human Injustice Is Not Terrorism

There is no doubt that what happened in Paris was a tragedy, one which should cause us to fall to our knees in prayer, not just change our profile picture, but what about the people every day who suffer, who are killed, who are tortured and mistreated, abused and abandoned, and those dying of starvation? Who will fight for them?

When world tragedy strikes, people will instantly donate and jump in to help fight. Yet, all around us every day, people die from preventable causes. Starvation, disease, abandonment, abuse, abortion... This is the greatest human injustice: to care more about an unpredictable tragedy, than the tragedies we can predict and prevent every single day. Ask anyone, if they could have done something to prevent this massacre, and their answer will be yes. But with the knowledge we have and the resources we have, we do nothing to prevent or take action to the common everyday injustices in our society. We are more concerned over people's sexual identity and rights and over silly coffee cups, than we are human freedom and justice.

I will never be able to justify spending 200 on shoes when I know there is someone in another country who is STARVING TO DEATH. How can we justify this? How can we really say we care about others when all we do is change a profile picture and "say a prayer" but what percentage of people who post those pictures of “Pray for France" actually pray or even pray on a regular basis? Can God answer our prayers for others when we do nothing to help them, and live selfishly, comfortably, and with excess?

Bottom line: Don't ask God to do something for someone else, when you could do it for them yourself. We pray for things that are out of our control. We pray for the impossible, not for the things within our reach. Prayer is not a cop-out.

Before & After DIY Dresser Makeover
Dresser Makeover Before & After

I've had this dresser for a very long time. It's been with me for as long as I can remember. It may be a simple dresser, but it's a part of me. It's drawers have seen me change my style, have watched me grow, and have travelled with me through every transition in my life.

Dresser Before Mint Green Chevron Pattern

Three years ago, this baby got a transformation. Chevron was the popular thing, and mint green was and still is one of my favorite colors. It was appropriate for my college apartment. I was pretty proud of my work because that chevron pattern was not easy to tape.

Mint Green Chevron Stripes

A lot has happened in three years. I moved out of my college apartment and in with my husband! Not only that, but we just moved to the beautiful city of Miami, FL.

Dresser Stripped and Raw

So I thought it time to strip the funky chevron paint and go for something a little more grown-up and a little more my current style.

Pushing Up Daisies

He loves me

He loves me not...

he loves me daisies he loves me not
The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.
— Isaiah 40:8

Daisies are considered to be invasive weeds disguised as flowers.

They are common, to some a common nuisance, to others a common beauty.

outfit inspiration daisy hat

People are experts at disguising their weaknesses.

From the time we are children to the time we reach adulthood, we learn to play hide and seek with our emotions and flaws.

We push them deep within ourselves and pretend they do not exist.

The only way to get rid of a weed is to destroy it's root.

My weed, you could say, is anxiety.

I never considered myself a worrier, but you don't know who you are until you've been tested with as much as you can handle.

I have never been concerned about my next meal or wether I could pay the bills.

At least not in my mind.

I thought I had it all covered.

I was doing everything in my control and yet I never felt more helpless.

I was doing everything and becoming nothing.

What triggered my downward spiral was much deeper and directly connected to my toil.

And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin,
— Matthew 6:28

It's natural to do what you can with your own abilities, talents, and resources.

But it's the most stressful.

You only feel pressure because you've placed all the responsibility on your self.

Our busyness is often our own way of taking life into our own hands.

Yet at a time in my life that is the most uncertain, I feel less secure and more at ease.

Nothing is more beautiful and more peaceful than knowing you are helpless and that God has to provide a way.

I have only experienced his faithfulness and open doors.

Doing more will not make you happy

Focus on what matters

You aren't enough

You will never be enough

You will never be satisfied until you realize and accept that you aren't.

People like to self motivate and tell you that you are strong enough, brave enough, and talented enough, but the strongest people I know have never made it through a battle without someone helping them fight.

With God, you never have to worry.

He will always fight for you, and he will always win.

The Story Behind The Name: Crafted To Create

The daunting question that many of us struggle with at some point in our life is “What is my purpose in life?” or “What was I created for?" Many try to find their purpose by doing what makes them happy or succeeding at something they are good at. Yet, while these may or may not coincide with what our ultimate purpose in life may be, it can not be the answer to our question.

In order to know what we were designed to do,

we first must take a look at who designed us.

We all know there is debate on the origin of the universe, but I happen to believe the theory that has been around longer than all the others.

I believe that God is the creator of the universe, and we can see the beauty of his love for creation unfold in the book of Genesis.

While I could spend endless time on all he created, I want to focus on the most important, us.

We are set apart from everything else by one unique thing: our ability to create.

In Genesis 1:27, it says that God created mankind in his image. So if God created us in his image, wouldn’t that mean that we are creators too? He birthed inside of us the desire to create. So if we are designed and purposed with a desire to create, what exactly should we be creating?

Noah built the ark.

Solomon built the temple

Paul was a tent maker

Jesus was a carpenter

Dorcas made garments

These are just a few examples of people, and Jesus himself, who created material things.

However, it is also our job to make things that are not physically represented.

Although some live their life creating chaos, we are called to make peace.

James 3:18 "And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace."

Though some follow paths of destruction, we are called to make straight paths for our feet.

Hebrews 12:12-13 "Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed (to free from errors and sins, to bring about one’s salvation)."

Though some spend their lives leading others astray, we are called to make a straight paths for the Lord

Matthew 3:3 "A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'"

By us following God’s will for our lives,

we make a way for others to know him.

We are created to make good fruit.

Matthew 7: 16-20 “You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits."

What is good fruit?

Fruit = actions, deeds, praises, and to make a harvest of eternal life “fitted souls to obtain eternal life”

We are created to make a joyful noise to the Lord.

Psalm 98 - Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises!

We are called to make a feast for the poor.

Luke 14: 13-14 "But when you give (make) a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

In everything, we are to do it as unto the Lord.

Collosians 3:23 "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,"

These "do’s" mean two different things

The first do means make, and the second do means work or produce.

So we should actually read this verse like this:

Whatever you make, produce it heartily, as unto the lord and not to men.

Everything created should bring glory to god; not drawing attention to one’s self but drawing attention to him.

Matthew 7:12 "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets."

Try reading it like this: Therefore whatever you would want men to make for you, make it also for them.

Because he created us to make good things, he is against those who make evil.

1 Peter 3:12 - "The face of the lord is against those who make evil."

evil = anything troublesome, destructive, not as it ought to be

What if you do something that isn’t necessarily a “sin” but is destructive to your future?

The definition of evil here is: something that is not as it ought to be.

If you go against what God desires for you life, you are doing something that is not as it ought to be.

Anything that he doesn’t desire for your life is evil.

Being a doctor might not be evil for someone else, but if God has called you to be a teacher it is evil for you.

Not only is it evil for you, but it is evil for the people who your life is called to have an impact on.

We are created, to create his will.

He gave a choice.

We can choose to create good or evil.

We can choose to create his ultimate perfect plan as the master and designer, or we can choose to create things not as they ought to be.

We can create his desires or create our desires.

The choice is yours.

What will you create?
